Questions
PM Surya Ghar questions answered.
What is PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana?
It is the Government of India's scheme, launched in 2024, that gives households financial assistance to install rooftop solar. Its aim is to help homes get up to 300 units of free electricity every month.
How much subsidy can I get in Bihar?
Central assistance is ₹30,000 per kW for the first 2 kW and ₹18,000 for the third kW, up to ₹78,000. Bihar adds ₹10,000 per kW, up to ₹20,000. So a 1 kW system gets ₹40,000, 2 kW gets ₹80,000, and 3 kW or more gets up to ₹98,000.
Is the subsidy available for hybrid or off-grid systems?
The scheme is for grid-connected rooftop systems with a net meter, so off-grid systems are not eligible. For hybrid systems it depends on the setup — ask us and we'll check for your case.
Why do I need DCR panels?
The scheme requires DCR (Domestic Content Requirement) panels, which use solar cells and modules made in India. We use DCR panels on every subsidy system.
Do I have to pay the full amount first?
The system is paid to the vendor, either by you or through a bank solar loan at about 5.6–6% interest over roughly 10 years. The subsidy is then credited directly to your bank account after the system is installed, inspected and commissioned.
How long does it take to receive the subsidy?
The subsidy is released after the DISCOM inspects the system and it is commissioned on the portal. The exact time depends on the DISCOM and portal processing; we follow up at each step.
Can I apply myself, or do you do it?
You register on the national PM Surya Ghar portal with your electricity connection details, and the installation must be done by a registered vendor. As a registered vendor, we help you with registration, the application, installation, net metering and inspection.
